BUFT photography exhibition ‘Frames of Freedom’ held in Dhaka

The BUFT National Photography Exhibition 2025, titled Frames of Freedom, was held at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy after a three-day showcase held on December 18, 21 and 22.

The exhibition featured 130 photographs selected from 7,661 submissions from across the country and ended with a prize-giving ceremony on January 12, says a press release.

Organised by the BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology Photography Club, the national-level exhibition focused on visual storytelling, creative freedom and contemporary photographic expression. The event was presented by Giant Group, powered by Fashion Step Bangladesh and co-powered by PUSAB and S&A Associates.

Speakers at the closing ceremony included Faruque Hassan, chairman of the BUFT Board of Trustees; Ayub Nabi Khan, adviser of BUFT; Alamgir Hossain, acting vice-chancellor of BUFT; Sharmin Hassan, director of Giant Group; Rezauddin Stalin, director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy; and Abdullah Al Mahfuz Zakaria, president of PUSAB.

The chief guest, Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, adviser to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, highlighted photography as a powerful medium for cultural expression and social reflection. Awards were presented in several categories, including Best Photograph, Jury Award and Special Mentions, followed by cultural performances and recognition of sponsors and partners.

The exhibition was inaugurated on December 18 by Faruque Hassan. Yousuf Tushar, president of the Bangladesh Photographic Society, attended as guest of honour, alongside senior BUFT officials and representatives of the photography club.

On December 21, the exhibition opened to the public and drew a strong response from students, photographers, professionals and art enthusiasts. Organisers said the exhibition aimed to celebrate photographic art and encourage emerging visual storytellers across Bangladesh.
