Stocks rise for eighth consecutive day
Bangladesh's stock continued to soar for the last eight consecutive days, which helped the index to reach a new height today.
The DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), surged 62 points, or 0.86 per cent, to 7,258 points.
At the DSE, 177 stocks advanced, 177 fell and 22 remained unchanged.
On the same day, DS-30, the blue-chip stock index, rose 33 points to 2,647, points.
Turnover, an important indicator of the market, hit Tk 2,696 crore, up from Tk 2,555 crore recorded yesterday.
Meghna Life Insurance topped the gainers' list that rose 10 per cent followed by Olympic Industries, National Housing Finance, Rangpur Foundry, and Kohinoor Chemical.
Meghna Pet Industries shed mostly that lost 7.52 per cent followed by Meghna Milk Condensed Milk, Imam Button, Samata Leather.
Stocks of Square Pharmaceuticals was traded highest that worth Tk 81 crore followed by Beximco Pharmaceuticals British American Tobacco, and Meghna Life Insurance.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also rose today. The CASPI, the general index of the port city bourse, edged up 152 points, or 0.72 per cent, to 21,131.
Among the traded 332 stocks, 144 rose, 167 fell and 21 remained unchanged.
