Stocks rebound to close 2% higher

Dhaka stocks rebounded today from the previous session's massive fall triggered by rising tensions between India and Pakistan that led to heavy sell-offs in the premier bourse of Bangladesh.

The DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, gained 2.07 percent, or 99.85 points, to close at 4,902.27.

The Shariah-based DSES index increased 2.50 percent to 1,074.27, while the DS30, comprising blue-chip stocks, went up 1.50 percent to 1,820.45.

However, turnover, a key indicator of market activity, fell to Tk 366.06 crore, which is 30 percent lower than the previous session. 

Of the 395 issues traded, 377 advanced, 10 declined, and 7 remained unchanged.

Khulna Printing & Packaging was the day's top gainer, rising 10 percent, while Meghna Condensed Milk Industries lost 5 percent to become the day's biggest loser.
