Standard Chartered Bangladesh has appointed Enamul Huque as its new chief executive officer (CEO), nearly three months after the previous CEO stepped down.

Enamul will succeed Naser Ezaz Bijoy, who stepped down as CEO on June 8 this year after serving in the role for nearly nine years.

Enamul’s tenure will begin on September 1, 2026, according to a press release.

Prior to his appointment, Enamul had been serving as the bank’s country chief risk officer and senior credit officer since April 2025, overseeing risk across the Bangladesh franchise and ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and the bank’s growth ambitions.

He also chaired the bank’s diversity and inclusion council.

Beyond his role at Standard Chartered, Enamul has contributed to the broader development of Bangladesh’s financial sector.

He served as co-chair of the standing committee on capital markets and bonds at the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) for the 2023-25 term.

Enamul brings extensive leadership experience in corporate and institutional banking and risk management.

During his 25 years with Standard Chartered, both in Bangladesh and other markets, he has developed expertise in working with local corporates, commodity traders, agribusinesses, global subsidiaries and financial institutions.

He has also led strategic client relationships and landmark transactions across diverse sectors.

Enamul obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Dhaka and an MBA from Mount Eliza Business School of Monash University in Australia.

Reacting to his appointment, Enamul said, “It is an honour to be appointed as the CEO of Standard Chartered Bangladesh. This bank has been my professional identity for over 25 years.”

“Taking up the role of chief executive officer of our Bangladesh franchise is both a recognition and a big responsibility,” he said.

“My priority will be to continue to be the super-connector international bank, invested in the success of our clients and regulators, and to remain a trusted partner to our clients, communities and other stakeholders,” he added.
