Bangladesh's merchandise exports fell 14.25 percent year-on-year in December to $3.96 billion, marking the fifth consecutive month of annual decline as weak global demand continued to weigh on garment shipments.

Apparel exports, which typically account for more than 84 percent of the country's annual export earnings, also declined by 14.23 percent year-on-year to $3.23 billion during the month, according to data from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) released today.

Despite the year-on-year fall, export earnings in December rose 1.97 percent compared with November, signalling a modest month-on-month recovery.

In a statement, the EPB said the increase reaffirmed a degree of stability in export momentum amid a challenging global environment.

During the first half of fiscal year 2025–26 (July-December), total export earnings stood at $23.99 billion, down 2.19 percent from $24.53 billion in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
