The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has again transferred 15 employees, including two movement coordinators, who are at the forefront of the ongoing movement against leasing the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) to a foreign operator.

The office order was signed by CPA Assistant Secretary Md Belayet Hossain today.

Over the past two days, the authority has transferred a total of 16 employees, including the 15, to Pangaon Inland Container Terminal (ICT) in Keraniganj and Kamalapur inland container depot (ICD) in Dhaka, and instructed them to join their new postings immediately.

None of them has complied with the order so far.

One of the 16 employees has been admitted to the hospital due to illness, protesting employees said.

Demanding the cancellation of the government’s move to sign a deal with UAE-based DP World to operate the NCT, workers and employees of the port have been observing an eight-hour work abstention for the last three days since Saturday.

The programme was jointly called by the Chattogram Bandar Rokkha Sangram Parishad and the Chattogram port unit of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal.

Parishad Coordinator Md Humayun Kabir, who is also among the 16 transferred employees, said the authority is trying to suppress the movement through punitive measures such as transfers.

CPA Director (admin) Md Omar Faruk said at a press briefing on Sunday that the transfers were routine administrative decisions made for official requirements.
