BB governor urges India to boost imports from Bangladesh
Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman has urged India to increase imports of goods from Bangladesh to help reduce the bilateral trade imbalance.
He made the call during a courtesy meeting with Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Shri Dinesh Trivedi at the Bangladesh Bank headquarters today.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral economic, trade and financial relations, according to a Bangladesh Bank statement.
The governor stressed the need for India to import more Bangladeshi products to reduce the bilateral trade imbalance.
He also expressed interest in expanding the use of Bangla QR for cross-border digital payments and sought India's experience and possible technical cooperation in the area.
The Indian high commissioner emphasised the need to facilitate foreign investment in Bangladesh.
In response, the governor said Bangladesh Bank had already taken several policy measures to make the country more investment-friendly. These measures would enable foreign investors to repatriate their invested capital and profits more easily, he said.
The governor also called for greater Indian investment in Bangladesh's technology-driven, manufacturing and industrial sectors.
Indian Deputy High Commissioner Pawan Kumar Badhe and Second Secretary (Economic and Commerce) Gourab Kumar Agarwal were present at the meeting.
Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governors Md Habibur Rahman and Md Sarwar Hossain also attended the meeting.
