'Govt decision to hike fuel price didn't consider impact on people's daily lives'

Consumers Association of Bangladesh today demanded that the government scrap its decision of hiking diesel and kerosene price.

"The decision to hike fuel price was taken considering business aspects while its impact on people's daily lives was not considered at all," said CAB President Ghulam Rahman, while addressing a virtual press conference.

Hopefully, government will take a decision in this regard, he added.

CAB organised the virtual press conference to protest the recent government decision to increase fuel price which resulted in hiking public transport fare.

Addressing the press conference, Ghulam Rahman said due to hike in transport fare, production cost and cost of transporting goods will increase.

Subsequently, its reflection will be visible in the market prices, he added.

He proposed that the government form an effective "energy security fund" to mitigate fuel price hike in the country in future.

Addressing the press conference, architect Mubasshar Hussain said due to transport strike in the past couple of days, people had to suffer immensely across the country.

CAB Energy Adviser Prof M Shamsul Alam, among others, attended the press conference.
