Enhanced support from Concessional IDA Fund sought for Bangladesh

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has requested for increased support from the Concessional IDA Fund for the country's economic recovery from the adverse effects of Covid-19 and the Ukraine-Russia war.

While stating that International Development Association (IDA) Fund will be very helpful in reviving the economies of IDA countries, Kalam welcomed the $93 billion IDA 20 cycle scheduled for July 2022 to June 2025, according to a ministry press release.

The minister said this while Martin Reiser, vice president, South Asia Region of the World Bank, and Abdoulaye Seck, newly appointed country director of Bangladesh and Bhutan, paid a courtesy call on him at the secretariat today.

Reiser is now on a three-day visit to Bangladesh.

Kamal also discussed the progress of various projects being implemented with the World Bank's loan assistance.

"We received $1 billion budgetary support from 2019 to April 2022. We hope to get another $500 million budgetary supports in the current financial year," said the minister.

There is a $6.15 billion loan proposal in the pipeline for the 2023-2025 period, the release also said.
