HC stays EC’s decision allowing BNP candidate for contesting polls
The High Court today stayed the Election Commission’s decisions that allowed BNP candidate Tamiz Uddin to contest the December 30 election for Dhaka-20.
The bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam passed the order following a separate writ petition filed by ruling Awami League candidate Benazir Ahmed for Dhaka-20.
In the petition he challenged the EC’s decision to allow Tamiz Uddin to contest the December 30 election claiming that Tamiz is holding the office of Dhamrai upazila chairman which is a profitable post, Deputy Attorney General Motaher Hossain Sazu told The Daily Star.
He said the HC bench also rejected a writ petition filed by a candidate for Cox’s Bazar-2, Hamidur Rahman, seeking its directive on the EC to allocate sheaf of paddy as his election symbol.
