Flood damaged crops worth Tk 1,323 crore: Agriculture minister

Flood has damaged crops on over 1.58 lakh hectares of lands in 37 districts -- worth about Tk 1,323 crore, Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque said today.

The minister also said that flood has damaged Aush paddy worth Tk 334 crore, Aman Tk 380 crore, vegetables Tk 235 crore and jute Tk 211 crore.

This year, flood hit the country three times, he added.

He came up with the information during a press briefing held virtually today.

Expressing concern over the recent rise of water level in the rivers, he said that there will be no food shortage unless any major natural calamity occurs in the coming days.

The government has taken adequate preparations to face the situation, Minister Abdur Razzaque said.

He also said that the government will give cash incentives to affected farmers and seeds at free of cost to motivate them.
