Two 'JMB men' held in Bogra

Police arrested two alleged members of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Bogra's Adamdighi upazila on Saturday night.

Police said arrestees Rubel Hossain, 27, of Chhoto Chok village in Chapainawabganj's Shibganj upazila, and Abdul Bari, 21, of Paarchoka village of the same upazila, were members of the outfit's military wing.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Lawful Interception unit from Police Headquarters in Dhaka along with Detective Branch of Bogra police raided Pouta Government Primary School around 10:45pm and held the two, said Sonatan Chakraborty, assistant superintendent of police (Sadar circle) in Bogra.

The drive was conducted on information from the intelligence office in Dhaka that the two members of the JMB's military wing were going to collect arms and ammunition from a border area in Chapainawabganj and supply those to an “important” JMB leader in Gazipur.

Seeking anonymity, an official of Bogra police said during primary interrogation, the detainees admitted that the arms they supplied were used in robberies for collecting funds for JMB. He added that police got the name of the leader whom they were going to supply the arms. 

A case was filed with Adamdighi Police Station yesterday against six JMB men with names and some unknown JMB men, said Sub-inspector of Bogra DB Md Firoz, plaintiff of the case.

Police also claimed to have recovered two foreign pistols, four magazines and 12 bullets from the possession of the two.

Sub-inspector of Bogra DB Bedar Uddin, also investigation officer of the case, told The Daily Star that a Bogra court granted a three-day remand each of the two.
