The government yesterday suspended Sub-Registrar Ehsak Ali Mondal for corruption and bribery while discharging duties at his office in Narayanganj on March 22.

Ehsak Ali Mondal, acting sub-registrar at Bandar sub-registry office in Narayanganj's Araihazar area, was filmed accepting cash from people for registering deeds in his office on March 22. The video went viral after it was posted online. The directorate of registration suspended Ehsak yesterday and also issued a notice asking him to show causes within seven days as to why he should not be dismissed from service or why he should not be handed further punishment through filing of a departmental case against him.

Inspector General of Registration (IGR) Khan Md Abdul Mannan signed the suspension letter saying that Eshak has been suspended for misconduct and corruption in administrative and public interest.

In the letter, IGR Mannan said that the video shows Ehsak accepting a bribe before signing a file and a person forwarding files to him. There was a pile of files on the table and Ehsak was putting the money he accepted into the drawer of his table along with the files he was being given. He was also seen putting the bribe money into his trouser pockets after signing the files.

IGR Mannan, in the suspension letter, said that this video was clear proof of Sub Registrar Ehsak Ali Mondal accepting bribes for registering deeds. Ehsak is accused of misconduct and corruption under Government Servants (Disciplines and Appeal) Rules, 1985.
