NGO official shot dead in Jessore
The executive director of a Jessore-based NGO was shot dead near his house in Jessore town on Saturday night.
The victim is Golam Kuddus Bhiku, 50, executive director of Protyasha Samaj Kalyan Sangstha.
Victim's brother Abul Kalam Azad Iku said unidentified criminals opened fire on his brother near his house in New Town area around 9:30pm. He died on the way to Jessore General Hospital.
Abul Bashar, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Kotwali Police Station, said the motive behind the killing could not be known immediately.
Police are trying to arrest the criminals, he added.
A local, Yunus Ali, said the attackers also blasted several crude bombs while fleeing.
In another incident, a youth was stabbed to death in Jessore Collectorate Park on Friday evening.
Quoting locals, Sub-Inspector Asaduzzaman of Kotwali Police Station told journalists that Firoz stabbed Roni, 20, to death over a dispute arising from a love affair with a girl.
Two cases were filed with the police station in connection with those incidents.
