Two ‘drug dealers’ killed in ‘gunfight’
Two suspected drug peddlers were killed in a “gunfight” with police at Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar early yesterday, hours after they were arrested.
The dead are Mohammad Amin, 37, and Helaluddin Sumon, 21, of Shilkhali area.
Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said they conducted a drive along with the duo at Baharchora Shilkhali Hill area to recover yaba pills and firearms.
As soon as they reached the area, a group of criminals opened fire, forcing them to retaliate. At one point of the “gunfight”, Amin and Helaluddin sustained bullet injuries, the OC claimed.
Police then rushed the duo to a hospital in Cox’s Bazar where doctors declared them dead, he added.
Police claimed to have recovered 5,000 yaba tablets, two guns and seven bullets from the spot.
The Daily Star, however, could not independently verify the police claims.
