Madrasa teacher sent to jail for attempted rape of minor

A Dhaka court yesterday sent a madrasa teacher to jail for attempting to rape a five-year-old female student in Savar’s Hemayatpur area.

Police arrested the accused -- Abu Taher, 40, teacher of Darul Ulum Aman Madrasa -- on Wednesday night after the victim’s father filed a case with Savar Model Police Station.

According to the case statement, Taher called the victim to his office room during class break and tried to rape her. The girl, however, started screaming that forced Taher to leave her alone.

Later, she returned home and shared the experience with her father, the case statement added.

Meanwhile, a Jashore court sent a man to jail for allegedly raping a fourth grader in the district town.

The accused -- Chand Hossain -- was arrested on Wednesday night after the victim’s father filed a case with Jashore Kotwali Police Station on Tuesday night.

According to the case statement, Chand intruded into the victim’s house and raped her. Hearing the girl scream, locals rushed to the spot and rescued her. The culprit, however, managed to flee the scene.
