A policeman was shot late last night after police cordoned off a house in Madhya Pirerbagh area of Mirpur during a raid.

Teams from the Detective Branch of police and Mirpur Police Station conducted the raid around 11:30pm yesterday following a tip-off that armed suspects were holed up there, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia from the spot in the wee hours of today.

He said the suspects fired at police and fled through the back door of the building.

The commissioner said police were raiding nearby houses and questioning a number of relatives of suspects they had detained.

Md Selim, duty officer at Mirpur Police Station, told The Daily Star early today that a DB inspector was injured in the incident and admitted to Square Hospitals.
