Bus runs over DMCH nurse

A nurse of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) was severely injured as the wheels of a bus ran over her right leg at Gulistan last night.

Jhumur Akhter Rakhi, 32, a senior staff nurse, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of DMCH in critical condition, an on-duty doctor said.

The accident happened as a bus of Malancha Paribahan struck her while she was crossing the road near Gulistan roundabout to catch a human hauler.

She was rushed to DHMC and admitted to the ICU, the doctor    said, adding they would conduct a surgery today after holding a meeting with senior orthopedic doctors.

Rakhi used to work at the burn unit of the hospital. On the day of the accident, she left her office for home at around 8:00pm, her mother Taslima Akhter Kajal said.

Officer-in-Charge of Paltan Police Station Mahmudul Haque told this correspondent that they have detained the driver involved and seized the bus.
