Boy killed over 'cricket rivalry'

A teen boy was stabbed to death allegedly for rivalry over a cricket match in the capital's Khilgaon yesterday. 

Al Amin, 17, was stabbed by some unidentified people at Nandipara in Khilgaon around 5:30pm. He died around 7:30pm at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Mashiure Rahman, officer-in-charge of Khilgaon Police Station.

Joynal Abedin, a friend of the victim, told reporters at the DMCH that some 10-15 youths, led by Sohrab and Javed, attacked Al Amin when he along with his friends was in a local fair at Golarbari. One attacker stabbed him in the back, leaving him badly  injured.

The victim used to live with his grandmother Amena Begum.

Amena said a scuffle involving Al Amin took place over a cricket match a week ago. Though the dispute was settled locally, Al Amin was killed by his rivals, she claimed.

Police were trying to arrest the attackers.
