Bangladeshi abducted in India, rescued after 2 days

A Bangladeshi man who had been abducted in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district was rescued by the state police on Thursday, two days after his abduction.

Six people, including the alleged mastermind of the kidnapping, were also arrested. They are Shibbrata Chakroborty, the alleged kingpin, Anwar Hossain, Anisur Rahman Gazi, Imran Hossain Mondol, Sahanur Mondol and Shariful Gazi.

Police also seized the microbus used for committing the crime, said Moinakh Banerjee, officer-in-charge of Habra Police Station in North 24 Parganas.

The victim, Mohsin Kibria, 35, of Baghchara village in Jessore's Sharsha, was abducted from Habra Natun Gram area on Tuesday morning when he and his father, Zakir Hossain, were on the way to a hospital in Kolkata.

Police said Shibbrata lived in Baghchara village, but settled in Habra a couple of years ago.

As Shibbrata and Zakir knew each other, Zakir and his son stayed at Shibbrata's house at Habra when the two went to India for Zakir's treatment on Monday.

The next morning, Shibbrata, Zakir and Mohsin headed for a Kolkata hospital. But Shibbrata left them on the way, saying he had an urgent job.

Later, four to five criminals intercepted the two and kidnapped Mohsin. The gang then phoned Shibbrata and demanded a ransom of Tk 15 lakh for Mohsin's release.

Suspecting that Shibbrata was involved, police interrogated him, and he admitted to his involvement in the incident.

A case was filed with Habra Police Station in connection with the abduction.
