Adieu, Supriya

Famous Bengali film actress Supriya Devi passed away yesterday at her South Kolkata residence following a massive heart attack.

She was 85.

“She felt unwell around 6:20am. She was in the bathroom then. Doctors were called... They declared her dead,” said one of her relatives.

Born on January 8, 1933, in Myanmar's Myitkyina, Supriya was one of the leading figures of the golden era of Bengali cinema that saw her straddle the screen space with great aplomb alongside the late Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen.

Supriya is survived by her daughter Soma Chatterjee.
