35 sued over murder of Narsingdi UP chairman

A case has been filed with Raipura Police Station over the murder of Banshgari Union Parishad Chairman Sirajul Hoque in Narsingdi.

The victim's son Ashraful Hoque filed the case against five named and 30 unnamed people on Friday night, Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of the police station, told The Daily Star.

The named accused are involved in ruling Awami League politics,  said locals.

The case mentions that the chairman was shot dead by rivals over establishing supremacy in Banshgari area. 

He was buried yesterday at his family graveyard.

“We are considering all possible motives behind the killing. It is being investigated whether there is any longstanding dispute or any other conflict. We have an idea of possible suspects. We are trying to arrest them,” Shafiur Rahman, additional superintendent of police in Narsingdi, said.

Sirajul Hoque, 70, was returning home by a motorcycle on Thursday after attending a meeting. Unknown assailants intercepted the motorcycle in Alinagar Arakanda village on Raipura-Banshgari regional road and shot him.

The attackers had fled by the time locals rushed to the spot. Sirajul was taken to Raipura Upazila Health Complex, from where doctors referred him to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital. He died on the way to the hospital.
