Born in 1939, she has authored many memorable books, the most notable ones being 'Bong Theke Bangla (1978)', 'Rokter Okshor (1978)', 'Ghar-Bhanga-Ghar (1974)', 'Uttar Purush (1977)', 'Surja Sabuj Rakta (1980)', 'Ekal Cirokal (1984)', the autobiography 'Nodi Nirobodhi (2011)' and many more.

He received many prestigious awards, including the two highest civilian honours, Swadhinata Puroshkar (2018) and Ekushey Padak (1995), respectively. Other prestigious accolades are UNESCO Bangladesh Journalism Award (2009), Bangabandhu Gold Medal (2005), Gold Medal in National Fish Fortnight Award (2005), Gold Medal in Development of Economy (2005), Dr Ibrahim Memorial Gold Medal, UN's FAO A.H.
