As an ominous situation looms in Myanmar across the border, Bangladesh is on high alert to prevent the spillover effect of the ongoing violence and civil war in Rakhine.

Bhashan Char has lately become a topic of critical debate in the refugee relocation discourse. It is a reality that comes with a harsh reminder of demographic changes within the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar and the limits of a highly populated state in supporting an incredibly high number of foreign nationals living in its territory.

Twenty-twenty will be an eventful year for Bangladesh. It will be celebrating the year as the Mujib Year with shining glory and confidence.

Bangladesh needs to pursue a more aggressive and concrete policy regarding Myanmar. Repatriation of the Rohingyas should remain as the focus for which a “Coalition of Willing” must be formed.
