Walk through any university campus, scroll through Instagram shops, or browse local marketplaces, and one pattern becomes clear: Bangladesh is not just seeing more startups, it is seeing the birth of its first generation of direct-to-consumer brands.

Bangladesh is very fond of the idea of the woman founder. She appears everywhere the ecosystem likes to flatter itself: on panels, in annual reports, in donor presentations, in the language of “inclusion” and “progress”.

Bangladesh is often discussed in terms of labour, manufacturing, and remittances. Yet an equally powerful economic resource remains largely invisible in policy discussions and investment theses: attention.

In Bangladesh, promise collides with a different set of frictions. Many Gen Z founders carry more self-awareness than spatial awareness; they can read a room emotionally but still misread how power, process, and patience work in this market.

'Skill-issue', a term popularised in the gaming world as a pejorative for those who struggle with difficult game levels, has been recognised by Bangladeshi youth as a barrier to showcasing their excellence in professional life. It simply refers to the gap in a person's technical skills, knowledge, tool competence, and behavioural skills as the world demands ever-increasing efficiency.

Demand latency is a universal phenomenon that companies are still struggling to get a grasp of. To build a more sustainable future for businesses in Bangladesh as well as understanding the impact of demand latency for the youth may secure the future of businesses across industries in the coming years. 

Early-stage startups in the seed stage commonly focus on building an in-house marketing team. This is because the startup’s core focus is developing an MVP with initial funding. If they are not offering a robust product to the market, any marketing effort for the startup is irrelevant.
