A 180-foot bamboo-and-wooden footbridge over the Kapatakkha River in Jashore’s Keshabpur upazila collapsed amid strong currents triggered by heavy rainfall, cutting off a key transport link and forcing thousands of residents from nearly 20 villages to rely on boats for crossing.

Thousands of people from around 20 villages in Monirampur upazila of Jashore have been enduring severe hardship as construction of a bridge has remained stalled for over a year past its scheduled completion date, with officials attributing the delay to a High Court order requiring a redesign.

A handwashing basin meant for patients and attendants at Keshabpur Upazila Health Complex in Jashore has reportedly been used as a dumping site for medical waste, raising concerns over infection risks and poor waste management at the government healthcare centre.

Students  of Sagardari Government Primary School in Jashore’s Keshabpur have been attending classes in a local auditorium after their school building was declared unsafe, leaving teachers and guardians worried about the impact on children’s learning and wellbeing.
