Dr Muhammad Zahir, the once well-revered jurist whose name has almost sunk into obscurity now, breathed his last on this day in 2013 in a hospital in Bangkok.

An authority on constitutional issues, his views on matters of national importance were dearly valued in times of crisis. He was a quintessence of objectivity, with no penchant for any political dogma.

He went away this day two years ago. He went away rather quietly. No visitors flocked around his sickbed. No news was seen on TV or newspapers about his terminal illness.
