Dynasty needs to explain
In the light of Dhawan's revelations, the case should be reopened. More than that, there needs to be a probe on how the institutions were diluted and the power got concentrated on Indira Gandhi.

Mrs. Gandhi's misrule
Forty years may seem to be a long period. But it is not long enough to efface the memory of a jungle raj which followed the imposition of the emergency in 1975.

Modi's non-rule
Information Minister Arun Jaitley is inviting editors from different parts of India to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to underline the achievements of his first-year rule. This public relations exercise is nothing new because all his predecessors have done so.

General Musharraf's outbursts
I have not been able to make out why General Pervez Musharraf, who is under house arrest on charge of treason, has made a public

Courts tilt towards rich
Salman and Jayalalithaa can afford the best of legal brains in the country. But the judges, who heard their cases, too have to see that they deliver justice however weak the prosecution is.

Disturbing trend at AMU
There is no inconsistency if a Muslim is made to feel that he has an identity of his own, but the overwhelming identity of all people living in India is Indian.

NGOs and agrarian crises
That the BJP is tilting towards the Hindu ideology is unfortunate, to say the least. But that does not mean those who are fighting against parochialism to underline the secular spirit of our constitution should be getting the wrong end of the stick.

Encounter or sheer murder
Yet another encounter has taken place in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. I have lost the count. What is distressing is that even the

Saffronisation of secularism
NOT many in Pakistan, still fewer in India, recalled that this March 23 marked the 75th year of the Muslim League's resolution to demand partition of India.

Towards emotional integration
POWER makes strange bedfellows. Mufti Mohmmad Sayeed, who heads the Jammu and Kashmir government, has joined hands with the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). Yet his victory in the state assembly elections primarily has been on the plank that he will not allow the BJP to enter the valley. That he has gone back on the electoral promise is not any different from what leaders of other political parties do.

REBIRTH OF AAM AADMI
It is, indeed, instructive to analyse why the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was decimated at the polls in Delhi.
But the more important point is how the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has emerged with such a bang: 67 seats in a house of 70! The BJP is down to just three from the 32 it had won in the December 2013 Assembly election.

After all it's a game
SUPPOSE India had lost the World Cup cricket match against Pakistan at Adelaide, the reaction among its people would have been that of disappointment and remorse. But I do not think that they would have initiated scuffles with the Pakistani spectators. The Indians would not have destroyed television sets as some did in Karachi and elsewhere in Pakistan. Of course, there would have been a sense of humiliation, but it would not have poured on to the streets in the shape of fracas or demonstrations.
