‘Self Depiction’ underway at Kala Kendra

Talented young artist Afrida Tanzim Mahi tragically passed away last year. On the occasion of her 23rd birth anniversary, Kala Kendra is currently hosting Self Depiction, a solo exhibition of her paintings.

Afrida’s canvases are steeped with evocative images of haunting beauty and imagination.

“My paintings tell the story of what happened the day I painted the piece. A series depicts a phase I passed through. I may have painted the series overnight or over months, and this determines the length of the episode,” Afrida had written in a statement.

She passed away while her exhibition, Lost in Translation, was underway at Kala Kendra, last year. Self Depiction, which will run till November 12, is curated by Wakilur Rahman.
