Udichi celebrate Rabindranath-Nazrul-Sukanta

Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Goshthi, one of the most prominent cultural organisations of the country, held a programme on Friday to celebrate three stalwarts of Bangla literature and icons of secularism and harmony – Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Sukanta Bhattacharya. The programme was held at the Music and Dance Centre auditorium of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

The proceedings began with a solo guitar performance by Siddikur Rahman Bokul, a teacher at Udichi's arts school Bishwabeena. A discussion followed, chaired by acting chairman of Udichi's Dhaka Metropolitan Unit. Professor Dr. Himel Barkat of Jahangirnagar University discussed on the life and works of Sukanta; Dr. Hosne Ara Jolly, professor of Jagannath University spoke on Kazi Nazrul Islam and professor of Dhaka University Dr. Mohammad Azam discussed on the work and impact of Rabindranath Tagore.

The second segment of the programme featured poetry recitation, music and dance by artistes of Udichi's various Dhaka units, and closed with a staging of Kazi Nazrul's play “Bhooter Bhoy” by the theatre unit of Udichi's Dhaka Metropolitan Sangsad.
