Popular singer-songwriter Karishma Sanu Sovvota released her debut solo album “Jodi Thakto Dana” on Friday (July 7) at the TSC swimming pool, Dhaka University campus.

Each copy of the album was accompanied by freebies including a poster, badge and t-shirt. The album launch was followed by a live concert, where Sovvota performed the album in front of the audience.

“The response at the album launch was beyond my expectations,” Sovvota told The Daily Star. “There were a few hundred people and they loved the album, and that was a great feeling.” The artiste also informed that the album was entirely funded by herself in true indie spirit, and she is looking forward to taking the album with her to upcoming live shows.

“Jodi Thakto Dana” contains seven tracks. Six of them are written and composed by Sovvota herself, while the other is a cover medley, aptly named “Trirotno” – a soulful tribute to Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam and DL Roy.

All the tracks on the album, except for “Trirotno” have been arranged by Shahrin Shahriar, Aliester Sarkar Raj and Samiul Wahid. “Trirotno” is arranged by Khayam Sanu Sandhi.

One of the songs from the album, “Ekhanei Poth Amar”, was also released as a music video on YouTube, directed by noted cinematographer Rashed Zaman. In addition to CDs, the album will be available on a wide array of digital music platforms -- iTunes, Spotify, Gaana, Gaan, GP Music, Yonder etc. Anyone can also order the album for home delivery through Sovvota's Facebook fan page,

At the event, “Treesim Foundation”, a volunteer organisation for planting trees which Sovvota is a youth ambassador for, also gave away a plant with each album.
