Sachin croons for a clean India
For years on end, you have seen him wielding the willow in style to set cricket venues across the world on fire. And now you can see him crooning for a social cause.
Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary Indian cricketer, will be featured in an upcoming musical video singing a few lines of a song to spread awareness about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative to achieve complete cleanliness by the year 2019.
The video will also feature other Indian celebrities but their names are being kept under wraps in order to heighten public interest by keeping up the suspense.
Written by eminent Bollywood lyricist Prasoon Joshi, the song is the anthem for Modi's “Swach Bharat” (Clean India) mission launched on October 2 last year and has been set to music by the famous composer trio of Shankar-Ehsan-Loy with Shankar Mahadevan being the lead singer.
The video will be done on the lines of the popular song “Miley Sur Mera Tumhara”, a medley of several Indian languages produced by state-owned Doordarshan in early 1990s to promote the unity in diversity theme. That song had become a huge hit.
Tendulkar will appear in a cameo singing a few lines from the song while his doctor-wife Anjali will stand beside him, said a spokesman of Urban Development Ministry which has sponsored the music album.
The new video album will be released on October 2 to mark the birth anniversary of India's Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, and completion of one year of the launch of Clean India campaign kicked off by Modi who had taken up a broom to clean the streets exactly a year ago.
