Raga-based melodies at Praner Khela
Raga-based Bangla songs are a priceless creation of our musical culture. The rich trend emerged from the union of classical khayal forms and pro-poetry music composition.
As part of their regular musical arrangement, Bengal Foundation organised a musical soiree featuring raga-based Bangla songs performed by renowned artiste Subir Nandi and Bengal Bikash Protibha artiste Farhana Kanta at Bengal Shilpalaya on August 29.
Farhana Kanta set off the event with a Basudev Ghosal song “Jamini Hobey Ki Bhor”. Her repertoire also included a Begum Akhtar classic “Jochhona Korechhey Adi”, “Bini Sutoy Gantha Mala” and “Jamuna Ki Bolte Parey”, originally recorded by Shipra Basu, and a Manabendra Mukherjee record “Dol-e Dodul Dol-e Dolona”.
Subir Nandi performed songs originally composed by Kazi Nazrul Islam, DL Roy, Sujeyo Shyam, Khandakar Nurul Alam and one of his own. The artiste started off with Nazrul Sangeet -- “Kotha Kou”, “Bhoriya Poran Shunitechhi Gaan” and “Shawono Raat-e Jodi”. He later presented “Oi Maha Sindhur Opar Thekey”, “Ki Je Byatha Bajey”, “Paharer Kanna Dekhe” and more.
Iftekhar Alam and Bishwajit Sarkar on tabla, Binod Roy on keyboard, Monwar Hossain Tutul on guitar and Bidyut Roy on percussion accompanied the artiste duo. Director General of Bengal Foundation Luva Nahid Choudhury hosted the soiree.
