New York calling for Runa Laila
Runa Laila, whose reputation as a singer has garnered her numerous national and international awards over the years, has been singled out once again to be honoured for her contributions to music. The Barinu Institute for Economic Development is to confer on the artiste the “Distinguished Celebrity Legend Award” at an event titled “Inspiring Women Creativity and Entrepeneurship in the Global Ecosystem” on May 25.
The event will be held amid great festivities at Trump World Tower in New York. Aside from being an awardee, the singer will also be present as the chief guest at the occasion. Organisers of the event have sent Runa Laila an e-mail requesting her attendance saying, “For your invaluable contributions to music which has inspired countless women living in Asia and beyond to explore their creativitiy, we request your kind presence to accept this award.”
Regarding this latest achievement, the singer has stated, “This is a matter of great happiness and pride to me, especially as a Bangladeshi, and as a woman. I would like to thank the organisers for extending this kind gesture towards me.”
The singer's remarkable achievements have stood out on other platforms as well. She was mentioned in the Guiness Book of World Records for her ability to sing in 18 languages. Over the years, she has amassed over 300 national and international awards for her achievements, including the National Film Award of Bangladesh, the Saigal Award of India, the Nigar Award of Pakistan, the Kalakar Award, the Graduate Award, and more.
