Int'l Jazz Day concert at BSA today

ABC Radio brings together Dhaka's jazz scene

Popular private radio station ABC Radio 89.2FM is hosting a jazz concert today marking International Jazz Day 2017 (today, April 30), at Bangladesh Shilapakala Academy's National Art Gallery.

International Jazz Day is coordinated each year by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz to highlight the power of jazz as a force for freedom and creativity, and a medium for promoting intercultural dialogue through respect and understanding, people all around the globe celebrate this event. Over the last three years, Bangladesh's Jazz Day celebration events have gained international applause and were acknowledged by UNESCO on their official jazz day website.

A range of jazz performances will be presented by musicians from the local jazz scene in Dhaka, who have been actively contributing over the years to foster Bangladeshi culture with jazz music:

The participating bands and artistes are Blue Lotus Trio, 42, Towfiq Arifin Turjo, Mohaimin Karim, Imran Ahmed, Rahin Haider, Robert Russell and Rushnaf Wadud.

The event was initiated by Towfiq Arifin Turjo and Imran Ahmed, with Rasheeq Rayhan (The Rock Project) as an associate partner.
