Chhayanaut remembers Sufia Kamal
Chhayanaut observed the 16th death anniversary of its founding president Poet Sufia Kamal with a cultural programme at its auditorium on November 20. The programme featured a commemorative lecture and presentation of songs composed by three poets -- Dwijendralal Roy, Atulprasad Sen and Rajanikanta Sen -- in group and solo.
Ayesha Khanam, President, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, elaborated on the life and works of the poet in her commemorative lecture analysing the late poet as a symbol of protest against all forms of injustice. Chhayanaut vice-president Sarwar Ali presented the vote of thanks while general secretary of the organisation Khairul Anam Shakil delivered the welcome address at the event.
The cultural programme began with a choral presentation of Rajanikanta Sen song “Amra Emni Eshe Bheshe Jai”. Renowned artiste Aditi Mohsin offered a captivating baitalik song “Aji Tomar Kachhey”, composed by DL Roy. Noted singer Sumon Chowdhury performed another DL Roy number “Oi Mahasindhur”. The audience enjoyed the choral songs including “Apon Kaj-e Ochol Holey” and “Tumi Nirmol Koro”.
Laisa Ahmed Lisa, Iffat Ara Dewan, Kalpana Anam, Tripti Khan, Azizur Rahman Tuhin and Neelyotpal Sadhya were among the others presenting solo songs at the event that came to end with a rendition of National Anthem.
