“I am constantly on the learning curve”… Jhumu Khan
A passionate singer and doctor by profession, Jhumu Khan is used to multi-tasking. She recently spoke to The Daily Star about what makes her tick:
How do you juggle your roles as doctor and singer?
Jhumu Khan: I greatly admire professionalism. I strive to be a dedicated doctor because I find my job fascinating and challenging. Ever since medical school, I believe I was born to be a doctor. Then again, music is my passion. Whether I am singing for the audience or myself, I am in bliss when I sing. Therefore, my singing has never created any upheavals in my medical profession or personal front, because I consider it a part of my life.
What do you do besides singing?
Jhumu Khan: Besides singing, I love exploring new avenues. I consider myself a student in every aspect of life. Learning is something that comes naturally to me, and as a doctor, I am constantly on the learning curve. So I invest in learning to ensure my commitment to my patients.
Who is your role model?
Jhumu Khan: It is very inspiring to see a woman successful in various roles -- as a daughter, mother, sister and a professional.
How do you view the new generation of artistes and singers?
Jhumu Khan: I find many of them exceptionally talented, and they have added variation in vocal style, lyrics and tunes.
Do you believe in new age therapies like aromatherapy, meditation, yoga, crystal healing and so on? Do you incorporate any of them in your practice?
Jhumu Khan: Yes, as a doctor I believe in these therapies as they relax our body and helps calm our mind. Moreover, I personally practice meditation.
Do you have anything upcoming for listeners?
Jhumu Khan: I'm trying to give more time to music these days. Some offbeat singles may come up very soon.
