Aid group suspends Lanka mission

The French charity Action Against Hunger (Action Contre la Faim, ACF) said Monday it was suspending its mission to Sri Lanka following the massacre of 16 of its staff in the country.

"These humanitarian workers were clearly identified by their T-shirts as members of a non-governmental organisation," said the group's director Benoit Miribel. "Their deaths are unacceptable, and show that barbarity is winning the battle against solidarity."

"As far as I know this is the biggest single death toll inflicted on an NGO. I have never seen anything like this," Miribel said, calling for an independent investigation to find those responsible.
