JU student faces uncertain future for JCD feud

Naziruddin, enrolled under 2005-06 academic session, is a brilliant student of Statistics department and a resident of A F M Kamal Uddin Hall.

He took a shrapnel of the bullet in his left eye while waiting along with other freshers outside the dormitory at night.

Nazir underwent two operations at National Eye Institute but he could not get back his eyesight as of Thursday.

Doctors have suggested taking him to Singapore or India.

"It is just my bad luck," said Nazir's elder brother Jasim who is a teacher of Mathematics in American International University, Bangladesh.

Jasim, who has been taking care of his four brothers and one sister since his father died about eight years ago, said, "Treatment at Singapore is estimated to cost about Tk 8 lakh while the estimate for India is yet to get. We will decide where to go on Monday (today)."

Though representatives of university authorities have visited Nazir, none of them assured the family of any assistance.

Nazir, who was compelled to stay at the TV room of the hall due to accommodation crisis, was forced to come out along with other newcomers after cadres of JCD General Secretary Nazmul Hasan Ovi group ran amok on the ground floor of the dormitory including TV room to capture the hall.

Despite repeated show up of arms on the campus by JCD factions in the last two months, university authorities never took any action against them.

Rather each time, the authorities concerned including Proctor Sayed Kamrul Ahsan tried to hide the matter, said sources.
