Koizumi, Bush to declare stonger security ties

By Afp, Tokyo
Tokyo and Washington plan to declare stronger security ties later this month to help combat threats such as global terrorism, Japanese media reported Saturday.

Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and close ally US President George W. Bush will make the joint declaration during their summit in Washington later this month, the Asahi Shimbun newspaper said.

The declaration is aimed at advocating "the Japan-US alliance in the world" and possibly countering the rapid growth of Chinese military power, the newspaper said.

The declaration will also include the US-base realignment program that the two nations agreed in May, the newspaper said, citing unnamed government sources.
