Titanic to remain in peace

The US State Department on Friday said it had sent Congress a bill designed to protect the watery grave of the Titanic, "the most important historic shipwreck."

The new law would designate the resting place of the famed ship, 12,000 feet (4,00 metres) below the frigid North Atlantic, as a maritime memorial by implementing a US agreement with France, Britain and Canada.

The move would honour "those who lost their lives in its tragic sinking and whose grave should be given appropriate respect," the Department said in a statement.
