DataCentre of the futurePart VI

A path to get there

While there is general agreement in the technology industry that the datacenter of the future is achievable and desirable, there are two different paths as to how organisations will get there.

Reccomendations
The datacenter of the future will enable IT processes to match business needs. It can be built using industry standards, offering the benefits of flexibility, choice and control through a pay-as-you-grow approach and integration. It can also be delivered as a service with technologies offering service/solution delivery but much less flexibility, choice and control. Whatever the path, there are actions and opportunities for organisations of almost all sizes to begin implementing today. These actions will not only improve IT operations now and for the foreseeable future, but will also form the critical foundation for organisations to achieve the promise of the datacenter of the future.

IT organisations must simplify operations through integrated and automated systems management tools. They must improve utilisation through server/storage consolidation, virtualisation and clustering, and cost-effectively scale through the use of industry-standard systems, enabling a pay-as-you-grow approach and the deployment of relevant technology.
