At least 85 people were killed in a passenger plane crash in Equatorial Guinea, radio reports said.

The Russian-made aircraft, an ageing Antonow, went down shortly after takeoff Saturday from the airport in Malabo, the capital of the small West African country. The cause of the crash was unknown.

There were apparently no survivors.

Air Equateur was cited as saying that the plane was overloaded.

Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang's daughter owns the airline.

"Because of bad weather conditions in the area, the search is still under way to recover the bodies of the occupants of this plane," the statement said, without indicating whether there were any survivors.
