THE net lovers' quest for more of the endless dimensions of ever growing internet and to get a glimpse of the products and services associated with it at the year's largest Net celebration 'Internet Fair 2005', came to an end on May 3 at its convening centre, the Bhasani Novo Theatre.

"The versatility of the visitors at the everyday at the fair took us by surprise," said Rajib Ahmed, media-support coordinator of the event. Major attraction beside the huge number of product showcasing from the 76 companies, who participated at the fair was AKTEL's special offer on its prepaid services, where the company gave out two SIM cards on buying a single Tk 300 phone card, as a result of which hundreds took the queue to put a hand on the offer. AKTEL introduced and presented a demonstration of its new GPRS system, which will be attainable through the use of the right kind of mobiles. The GPRS facility will soon allow AKTEL users to send in MMS along with SMS, while the user may also choose to browse the net from his or her phone from this service.

On the fifth day, Global Online Ltd., the official internet provider for the Bangladesh Cricket Board managed to get national cricket team coach, David Whitemore, and two other star players, Mohammed Rafique and Enamul Huq Junior to visit the fair.

Local visitors usually wait for special offers and discounts offered by the participating companies in such fairs. In addition to this, the demand for free browsing through the different open net connections offered catches a lot of attention. Once again, Intel and Spectra's gaming contest was able to get a good response from the visiting crowd. More than 1500 participants took part in the contest.

The fair proved the growing enthusiasm on internet and its technology. Hats off to Ispab (ISP Association of Bangladesh) for taking the initiative for organising such an event for the second consecutive time, which turned out to be bigger and better in every way compare to the first one.
