AKKHORBANGLA'S contribution towards the growth of Bangla computing is definitely significant. The latest version of the software was unleashed on April 29, at the recently held Internet Fair 2005.

Dr. Zinat Imtiaz Ali, chairman, Department of Linguistics, University of Dhaka, officially launched the second edition of the software at the seminar 'Internet and the Bangla Language' at the Bhasani Novo Theatre as a part of the Internet Fair.

The latest edition has been improvised after the compilation of the total feedback received from users through an extensive survey conduc ted by the developers.

The latest version follows the Unicode 4.1 character-set which had been published by the Unicode Consortium this month.

The new character to the set is 'Khond-do-tto' and this edition comes packed with a National keyboard compatible with Unicode along with the Akkhor Keyboard and the user's keyboard.

With the involvement of an on-screen keyboard, users can now type Bangla phonetically. For example when somebody types 'Ami' into the software, it will easily type the word in Bangla.

With the aid of the software, users can now easily chat in Bangla in popular messengers like Yahoo, MSN and others.

Along with the English and Bangla Calendars, an Arabic calendar has also been added with the bundle. These calendars can be viewed simultaneously.

The software, developed by a tech prodigy, Khan Md. Anwarus Salam, a student of Brac University first hit the market in 2004. Sponsored by Bangladesh Online Limited the the latest edition of the software along with tutorials and other information can be obtained from www.akkhorbangla.com
