ALMOST every computer programmer is familiar with the name 'Borland' and must have used Borland C/C++ while learning coding basics in their early days. Well, there is news for the nation's software developers; Borland has stepped into their hometown. Borland has associated with Spinnovation, a local software company, through which, Spinnovation has become the local authorized reseller and solution provider for Borland products.

The alliance announced their tie-up at a seminar held at a city hotel on Wednesday. The event introduced Borland's Application Life Cycle Management solutions to the developers and other concerned institutions, and elaborated Borland's perception on Software Delivery Optimisation.

"Most software developed and marketed immediately after the coding is completed is only 99.99 percent perfect and there is always the scope for 0.01 percent improvement, through which, higher revenue can be ensured," said Satyen H Parikh, managing director, Borland Software Corporation, Indian Subcontinent while delivering an informative keynote speech.

"Only our Application Lifecycle Management products can ensure that 0.01% improvement in the entire software development process," he claimed. Parikh spoke about Borland's background, the advantages of Borland Enterprise server, and the role of the company as a leader in the global software market.

"The Borland Enterprise Server is designed to provide greater speed and efficiency to business operations," said the Borland official.

He explained that effective deployment strategy behind an application ensures cost affectivity, efficiency and reliability to its customers.

"The server can do this and at the same time, increase the performance and productivity of the business lowering the technology barriers and ensuring the agility of the business," he added. He also cited how two other factors, cost and risk reduction can be achieved through the server.

He then explained the Application Life Cycle and pointed out that definition, design, development, testing, deployment, integration and management as the most important phases during the cycle.

Before elaborating the software delivery optimization technique in detail, Parikh mentioned that Borland products can help the clients to achieve maximum value from their products during these phases by reducing time-to-market costs and protecting current and future IT (Information Technology) investments.

Science and ICT Minister, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan chaired the event and admired the efforts of Spinnovation and Borland Software Corporation. "From Borland's history of emerging victoriously, despite the massive competition and other adversities that came their way, the nation's IT companies should learn that consistency through commitment and quality can play huge roles in the long run," said Khan while addressing the event.

Khan also pointed out the weak financial strength as a reason for lagging behind in the ICT sector. "With proper support from the concerned authorities and the potential skilled workforce that the nation is grooming, we are hopeful that someday we too will be a major player in the global IT market," hoped Khan.

Technical Architect of Borland Software Corporation, Jamil Ahmed then provided demonstrations on some Borland products, such as Business Enterprise Server (BES) App Server, BES-Visibroker, Borland Deployment Op-Center, C# Builder, Caliber RM, Core SDP and many more.

Parikh later appreciated the efforts of ICT Ministry and concerned authorities at alleviating the state of the nation's ICT sector through impressive projects such as the ICT Incubator and others, while speaking to StarTech.

"The Government is on the right track, but it has to be supportive toward the ICT sector and maintain it unlike most other Government projects that usually end up being a major loss due to corruption and malpractice," he said.

Parikh also termed Bangladesh as a major investing zone for global brands due to it domestic consumption through the development of business houses and the telecommunication growth and the high level of intellect that the Bangladeshi IT workforce possesses.

"Existing software developing firms focus on the coding which is just 20% of the entire product development cycle," said TIM Nurul Kabir, Chief Executive Officer of Spinnovation and vice president, Bangladesh Association for Software and Information Services (BASIS).

"Borland will be supporting these firms at providing better quality products by appropriate solutions which will be vitally required during specific stages of the product development," said Kabir.
