The first internet fair of the country is scheduled to take place at the Osmani Memorial auditorium on April 15 and 18, says a press release. Abdul Moyeen Khan, minister, Ministry of Science and ICT is expected to inaugurate 'Internet Fair 2004' having Marghub Morshed, chairman, Bangladesh Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission (BTRC) as special guest. Around 65 ISPs, networking companies, web development firms and multimedia and software development companies are expected to participate. A number of seminars will also take place during the two-day fair. The fair will also have free browsing corner arranged by Bdcom. Computer Bichitra and Bangladeshinfo.com will be coordinating the fair as media partners.
BASIS, BCS, ISPAB to work together
To achieve common goals in the development of the ICT sector of the country, Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) and ISP Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB), three IT associations of the country agreed to find out ways and means to work together, says a press release.
This was decided at a meeting held at the secretariat of BASIS on April 7, involving the board of directors of the associations. Sarwar Alam, president, BASIS, S M Iqbal, president, Bangladesh Computer Samity and Akhtaruzzaman Manju, president, ISP Association of Bangladesh were present at the meeting along with other board of directors.
They felt clear and present need for extensive co-operation for the development of ICT sector in Bangladesh and removing the impediments in the growth of the sector. The meeting unanimously decided to form a six-member coordination committee having two-members from each association. The coordination committee will be entrusted primarily to coordinate the activities of the three associations and to execute joint events. It was also decided that long-term goals and activities concerning the development of ICT sector should be addressed jointly by the associations.
