Preparations have been taken to send ailing Nirmal Sen, a veteran journalist and politician, abroad for treatment tomorrow.

"All necessary arrangements have been completed and we hope to send him to Singapore on Saturday," said one of his relatives yesterday.

Nirmal Sen, a leader of the Sramik Krishak Samajbadi Dal, suffered a brain stroke on October 11, leaving him paralysed down his left side and unable to see, talk and eat.

He is now undergoing treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital.

UNB adds: Prime Minister Khaleda Zia donated Tk five lakh and Awami League General Secretary Abdul Jalil and some left-leaning politicians gave Tk six lakh yesterday for his treatment.

The prime minister handed over the money to Nirmal Sen's nephew, Kankan Sen, at her office.

She also inquired about Nirmal Sen's condition and wished him early recovery.

Sen's niece, Mala Sen, Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka, PM's political secretaries Harris Chowdhury and Mosaddek Ali and Sramik Krishak Samajbadi Dal leaders Kazi Hatem Ali and Rezaul Islam were also present.

AL leader Abdul Jalil accompanied by some left-leaning leaders visited the ailing politician in the evening and handed over the money to his relative.

Workers' Party President Rashed Khan Menon, Gono Forum leader Saifuddin Ahmed Manik, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal leader Hasanul Houqe Inu, Sammyabadi Dal leader Dilip Barua and AL leaders Abdul Mannan and Ashim Kumar Ukil were present.

Earlier, Jalil made a commitment to arranging funds for Sen's treatment abroad.

Meanwhile, Abdus Samad Azad, acting AL president, also visited Nirmal Sen in the afternoon.
