Addl 2,500 mw power to be produced by 2007
This was contained in a report of the Power Development Board (PDB) submitted to the parliamentary standing committee on energy and mineral resources ministry on Wednesday.
The report suggested that if the demand for electricity during the peak hour could be reduced then it will be easy to solve the load shedding problem.
The demand for electricity remains highest from 5.00pm to 11.00pm, it added.
The report said 44 officers and employees of PDB have either been terminated or suspended from service for corrupt practices.
The parliamentary body urged the PDB to ensure sufficient power supply to the consumers.
It said different ministries have already adopted austerity measures in using electricity during the peak hour.
Shahidul Islam, chairman of the committee, presided over the meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhavan.
Committee members and officials concerned were present at the meeting.
