Third space festival begins Dec 17
Organised by the Bangladesh Astronomical Association, the four-day festival will be inaugurated at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) playground at 11.00am.
The festival has been dedicated to Wright Brothers to mark the 100th anniversary of Wright Brothers' first flight, said the organisers at a press conference yesterday.
Ten galleries will be the main attraction of the festival. It will also feature an aircraft exhibition chronicling the period from Icarus, the first man to fly in the air, to the present.
In addition, various competitions, seminars, science quiz, space observation and documentary film show have been arranged.
Exhibitions on the evolution of life in space, the solar system, telescopes of different ages and instruments of astronomy will also be held. A planetarium will also be erected for the visitors.
A competition of making airplanes with paper has been arranged for the college and university students. The winner will receive a Dhaka-Singapore-Dhaka air ticket.
A seminar will be held at 11.00am on the first day. Squadron Leader (Rtd.) Sayeed M Akhtar will present a paper on 'The history of inventions of plane'.
A quiz contest on the topic of the seminar will be held for the students of classes seven to ten.
The Daily Star, the Prothom Alo, BUET, Singapore Airlines, Air Parabat, Mir Akhtar Hossain Ltd., Wonderland Amusing Park and Graphosman will sponsor the festival.
Astronomical Association Chairman Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, festival director Mashhu-rul Amin, General Manager of Singapore Airlines, Bangladesh, Terence Wong, and M Abu Taher and Fazlul Bari of BUET were present at the press conference.
